Samneung (삼릉)
October 2009 16 |
Samneung is a park south of the Han river, near Gangnam and Apgujeong. This is the site of several burial mounds (tumuli) of Korean kings from the Joseon period (i.e., from a time when Seoul was already the capital). They are smaller than the tumuli of Gyeongju, but much more elaborate. Originally, this area was far outside the city of course. Besides being a royal graveyard, Samneung is a very pleasant park surrounded by high-rise office buildings - an excellent site for a walk at lunchtime or a Kimbap to go, if you don't mind having lunch on something that is effectively a graveyard
