Korea 2009

The idea to visit Korea came to me when I read a short university textbook ( Eggert, Plassen: Kleine Geschichte Koreas ) on Korean history. The book had been reviewed in a magazine I read, and while reading the review I discovered that, while most of us in the West do know at least some milestones of Chinese and Japanese history, I knew absolutely nothing about Korean history prior to the Korean war. So I bought the book, and after reading it, put Korea on my tourism wishlist.
When in 2009, I had two weeks of holiday left, I decided to spend them in Korea, for two reasons: I wanted to so some sightseeing, to vist a place that has historical sites, impressive modern architecture and so on, and I thought that I would need more than two weeks to make a meaningful visit to China or Japan, but that for a small country like Korea, two weeks may be enough.
Getting to Korea is easy: there are frequent direct flights between Frankfurt and Incheon (Seoul's airport) by both major Korean airlines, Asiana and Korean Airlines and by Lufthansa , as well as connections to and from Busan, and there are indirect connections with all major Asian and Arabian airlines. I chose Asiana, and they were pretty good.
Korea is a very interesting country to visit, if you're into historical or modern man-made sites, temples, palaces etc.. And of course for foodies - Korean food is unique, and in my opinion among the best of the world. Korea also does have places to relax, and natural sights, but those are not unique and there are other places to enjoy these.
