A friend and I decided to spend New Year's day 2007 on a liveaboard tour in the Similan islands. The Similans are one of the premier dive destinations in Thailand, a group of 9 island in the Andaman sea. The islands are not easily reached from the shore, and do not offer any resorts, so the only reasonable way to access them is via a liveaboard cruise.
I went out on Christmas day, 2006 (the only reasonably-priced flight I could still get), spent a day in Bangkok to get organised, and then went down to Phuket to get onto the cruise boat. After the cruise, my friend and I went to Ko Lanta for a couple more days of diving.
