Swakopmund
July 2008 24 |
Swakopmund was Southwest Africa's primary port during colonial days. In fact Walvis Bay a couple of kilometers to the south was much more suitable, but had been grabbed by the British already. Nowadays Swakopmund is no longer used as a port because Walvis Bay is now Namibian.
Swakopmund still looks a bit like a leasurely German seaside town, with a lot of old buildings still standing. It is not really a big town and you've seen all of it rather quickly. It does appear to be a rather prosperous town.
