Shah Alam, the state capital of Selangor, is a planned city. It is said to be designed specifically to be attractive to ethnic Malays, who usually prefer village or small town life. It is spacious and a rather sedate place, with a well designed central park and some beautiful buildings. No bars or pubs, no cinemas or night entertainment. But Shah Alam is the home of one of the biggest mosques in the world, beautifully located at the edge of the city park.
