Hong Kong has a variety of means of public transport: the metro, trams, buses, ferries, funicular railways, cable cars and ... escalators. This is the only place I know of in which an escalator is a means of public transport. The Central to Mid Level escalator connects the central business district with the residential areas of the Mid Levels, thus reducing the need for road transport in this hilly terrain
