Sabang was a small beachside village (probably a fishing village) before the big scuba diving boom started. Now it is a small town entirely devoted to tourism. Since a typhoon in 2006, Sabang has no beach, but even before the typhoon, the beach was not pretty anyway. For beach lovers, there are some nice beaches with plenty of accomodation and restaurants nearby, the closest two just around the corner, maybe a 10 minute walk away. The town itself mostly has low-to-medium price accomodation with a few luxury resorts, but it is basically simple and unambitious. Many self-catering apartments. No fancy restaurants. It has a small local supermarket but neither a 7-11 or other chain supermarket, nor are there any franchised restaurants like McDonalds or Jolibee. There is no ATM - as if the Filipinos don't understand where the tourist money comes from. They want you to spend a lot but make it hard for you to get it. There is some good diving in Sabang, especially for Macro fans. Lots of nudibranches and other small lifeforms. Visibility is generally not very good, there are not a lot of big fish (and if there are, you can't see them), but dive spots are close to the beach and diving itself is usually quite relaxing.
