Pak Ou Caves

One of the sights to see around Luang Prabang are the Pak Ou caves. They are a few kilometers upriver from the town opposite the mouth of the Nam Ou river (actually this is a duplication since "Nam" means "river") and you reach them by a nice ride on a river boat. Dozens of boats make the tour every day and it costs a few dollars. The caves are famous mostly because they house a large number of Buddha images and other Buddhist statues.

There are two caves, the smaller one overlooks the river and contains most of the figures, while the larger one is quite high up in the mountain.
