Victoria on the island of Gozo is the major urban settlement on the island. The city was called Rabat until late in the 19th century (not to be confused with Rabat on Malta island), when it was renamed in honour of the then ruling Queen of England. Like most Maltese cities, Victoria is essentially a fortress made from yellow limestone. From the ramparts, you have great views over the island and across the sea
