Philippines 2008
November 2008 301 |
The Philippines are not my favourite diving destination, but there is not a lot of choice in November, and besides, I found Sabang quite relaxing the last time I was there. Not the most spectacular diving, but it is a kind of no-stress easy living place. So I went back in November 2008.
I used
Qatar
Airways
to travel there, which turned out to be an excellent choice,
at least once the aircraft was airborne. Handling on the ground was a bit
chaotic. I had to kill 8 hours on Doha Airport waiting for my connecting
flight, and arrived at 6am in Manila. I had planned this connection because it
was the only one that would allow me to reach Mindoro island on Sunday, but in
Manila I learned that, for that day, the boats to Mindoro had been cancelled
due to bad weather. Well, on Monday the boats went, and so I made the crossing
and arrived at the same dive shop where I'd been in 2005, a small swedish-run
operation with a very relaxed attitude.
The good thing about diving in the Philippines is that there are a lot of places, like Sabang, which don't strongly on seasons, and offer reasonable diving all year round. The bad thing is that those places tend not to be the ones with the most spectacular diving.
